Department Profile
Zoology
provides a deep understanding of the structure, classification, behaviour,
genetics and evolution of animalson our mother earth. It has a wide range of
application in Pharmacology, Drug Designing, Forensic, Environment and Clinical
Sciences.The Department of Zoology was established in 1949 under the headship
of Dr. S.S. Khanna a renowned Fish Biologist. The Department started initially
with teaching facility for the students at Under Graduate level and was
upgraded to Post Graduate level in 1970.The Department also runs a vocational
course in Fisheries, a minor elective course in Applied Zoology and a
Co-curricular course in Food, Nutrition and Hygiene as per NEP guidelines. Ten
permanent posts of Assistant Professors have been sanctioned by higher
education department of U. P. Government.The Department is running efficiently
with high class teaching and research, faculty members are also engaged in
conducting various research projects. Department is also reflecting the
potential place of good quality researches in life sciences as evident by
publication of research as well as review articles/papers in reputed,
peer-reviewed and refereed International and National Journals. Faculty members
have also contributed several chapters in the Edited books published by reputed
National and International publishers (Elsevier, Springer Nature).
The Department also organizes a number of academic activities such as popular lectures by esteemed scientists, debates, quizzes and visits to various institutions. The Department has received funds under UGC -CPE, DST -FIST and also receives grants under DBT Star College Scheme.
Department adoptsbilingual approach and blended methods of
teaching and learning in order to cater the needs of students.Departmental
laboratories are enriched with advanced instruments, digital and virtual lab,
e-museum, image projection system for demonstration of dissection, histological
sections and cell biology slides.Several web portals are used for online
teaching. Department has its own YouTube channel which is used for teaching and
conducting seminars and workshops. The department has an animal house which runs
under the guidelines of IAEC.
The department has an illustrated list of alumni who hold
very good positions in the field of teaching and research at Central and state
universities and research institutes of repute. They also hold honorable
positions in various fields of administrative services as well.
The undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department
have been selected in various competitive exams such as NET/ JRF (CSIR), GATE,
UPSC, UPPSC, BPSC and SSC, CTET, UPTET etc.
